About Me

My Mono roots go back to when I was born; that is when my parents acquired what is now the home for my family.

I took an interest in local affairs when I was in my 20s, wrote a weekly column for the Orangeville Citizen in the late 1980’s and first ran for Mono Council in 1991. I was fortunate to serve as Councillor, Deputy Reeve, Reeve and then Mayor as Mono transitioned from a Township to a Town in the late 1990’s. In 2001 and 2002 I was elected by my peers on Dufferin County Council to the position of Warden.

In 2003 I resigned as Mayor to become a Justice of the Peace. I served in that capacity for 15 years, 6 of which were as Regional Senior Justice of the Peace for the second largest judicial district in Ontario. In that capacity I oversaw over 60 fellow Justices and their assignment to 50 courts daily.

In 2018 I retired and decided to run again for Mono Council, believing I could make a positive contribution. I was elected as Deputy Mayor and subsequently became Mayor.

Along the way I’ve also enjoyed my time starting up several small businesses, including a local Internet Service Provider with partners in the 1990’s.

Why I Am Running

I love Mono and what it has represented for decades - a rural town close to urban amenities while still blessed with unsurpassed natural features. I want to keep it that way.

I enjoy my job and interaction with residents. I take pride in proposing ideas and innovations such as a Question Period over 30 years ago, live streaming our Council meetings even before COVID and better accountability.

We need more people in public life who don’t simply react to ideas but actually propose and promote them.

I have no hesitation speaking ‘truth to power’, standing up for Mono residents when Federal and Provincial policies impact them negatively.

Your chair of Council needs to be flexible. Rigidly following an agenda or refusing to change one’s mind when faced with good alternatives is not leadership.

Often I need to respond on the spot to residents’ requests to be recognized from the gallery during Council meetings. For me that’s an easy one. Respect must also extend to members of Council. I introduced changes that permit members of Council to introduce motions on shorter notice.

- An all-candidates’ meeting at Monora Park Pavillon 500, Monora Park Drive at October 7 at 7 p.m.

How to Vote

Voting is easy and safe in Mono. It can be done online or by phone. Check out the Town’s Election Website: https://townofmono.com/topics/election

Who can vote?

- Residents of the Town of Mono or an owner or tenant of land in the Town
- The spouse of an owner or tenant

But you must also be a Canadian Citizen, at least 18 years of age and not prohibited by law from voting.

You will receive a Voter Instruction Letter along with instructions on how to vote. If you have any questions please call the Clerk’s Office at Town Hall: 519.941.3599.

Electors can have their names added to the Voters’ List up to the close of polls on October 26. One piece of identification showing name and current address must be shown.

Finally, we also have a Voter Help Centre opening on the following dates and times during the voting period:

- October 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- October 19 to October 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- October 26 (the final day of voting) from 8:30 a.m. to close of voting at 8:00 p.m.
